DAY USE: Room used only for a portion of the day not exceeding six hours.
DUE OUT: A guest expected to check out from the Hotel but hasn’t yet vacated the room nor has settled his bills.
EARLY ARRIVAL: A guest who arrives at the Hotel before his scheduled time of arrival.
EARLY DEPARTURE: A guest who has checked out of the Hotel before the scheduled date or time of his departure.
EXPRESS CHECKOUT: A pre-departure activity that involves the production and early morning distribution of guest folio’s for guest expected to check out that morning.
FLOOR LIMIT: The amount of charges a Hotel allows a guest to incur prior to requiring payment in part or full. Fixed by credit card company.
FLAG: A coloured plastic chip used in the room rack to designate the status of the room.
FOLIO: The guest bill which is created upon check in and used to record all guest charges and posting transactions incurred with in the Hotel.
FRANCHISE: A method of distribution whereby one entity has developed a particular patterns or format for doing business.
FRONT OFFICE: A broad term that includes the duties and functions involved in registering guests, posting guest charges, controlling room status and availability.
FRONT OF THE HOUSE: The department or area of the Hotel where there is a great deal of guest contact e.g. front office, restaurants etc.
FULL HOUSE: All rooms occupied; no room left for sale.
GROUP RATE PLAN: A special discounted Hotel room rate offered to a group as an incentive to attract large number of people and to sell large block of rooms.
GUARANTEED RESERVATION: A reservation made by a guest, payment of which is assured by a credit card, corporate account, travel voucher or prepayment. The room is held all night long or untill the guest arrives whichever is first and unless the reservation is cancelled properly. The guest is billed for the room from the date of arrival.
GUEST HISTORY CARD: A record of guest data collected at the time of registration for future reference and analysis.
