Job Description For General Ledger Accountant
Job Summary
Marriott International is seeking a General Ledger Accountant to support the accounting and finance operations of the EMEA administrative offices. This role ensures compliance with US GAAP, company policies, and local accounting standards, while providing accurate financial reporting and analysis. The position also supports audit processes, financial reconciliation, and administrative entity requirements within the region.
This is a full-time role requiring strong analytical and organizational skills, with an opportunity to contribute to finance initiatives that align with Marriott's global and regional strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations, journal postings, accruals, prepayments, and period close activities.
- Assist in preparing internal and external financial reports, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and local accounting regulations.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, VAT reconciliation, and fixed asset maintenance.
- Ensure accurate revenue and expense reporting across assigned EMEA entities.
Compliance & Process Improvement - Ensure adherence to company policies and compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Support audit documentation requests for internal and external reviews, including Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) compliance where applicable.
Financial Analysis & Ad-Hoc Projects - Assist in financial variance analysis and reporting to senior leadership.
- Participate in special projects and provide financial insights as required.
- Work closely with regional finance teams to ensure consistent financial practices.
Candidate Profile Experience & Skills - Minimum 2 years of accounting experience, including exposure to US GAAP.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with a professional demeanor.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Technical Skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word), with advanced Excel skills preferred.
- Experience with accounting software (PeopleSoft/Oracle preferred).
- Familiarity with financial reconciliation and reporting tools.
Education & Qualifications - College or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Qualified Accountant (UK or Germany preferred).
- Fluency in English (written and verbal) is essential.
