This is a temporary position.
The Director is a key member of the Global Learning + Development (L+D) team, specifically positioned to lead the design and development of system training programs for Marriott's Digital + Tech Transformation (DTT) initiative.
The Director is expected to demonstrate deep learning leadership expertise (gained from both academic and professional work experience) in order to lead projects using both classic and contemporary learning design strategies that meet learner and business needs. The Director is responsible for the design and development of products utilizing a variety of delivery methodologies, as well as leading the design and development efforts of Instructional Designers. The Director, System Learning Design + Development supports a collection of systems for design and development efforts inclusive of the managed, franchise, management and hourly audiences. This position requires leadership, strong project management, instructional design expertise, development and client management experience. The Director, System Learning Design + Development will lead Instructional Designers, contractors and/or external vendors in the design and development of learning items.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
Learning Development
• Scope the learning and development needs for the DTT initiative identify the resources, learning objectives, output milestones, and timeline for each.
• Strong experience building learning items from analysis, design and storyboard (if needed), development, project input and client presentation, always looking for ways to be agile and utilize rapid prototyping.
• First hand development responsibilities for complex, highly visible projects that require senior learning leadership direction and support.
• Strong leadership and ability to interact with subject matter experts across a variety of systems and disciplines to design and develop effective learning solutions.
• Use L&D knowledge and best practices to provide expert guidance to SMEs and minimize scope creep
• Partner with SMEs to develop future curricula - by system, by task, by persona
• Execute learning item(s) review with client to secure sign-off at each designated milestone to keep the project on time.
• Package multiple items to create curriculum, as appropriate.
• Partner with Performance Advisory (PA) in learning initiative planning for the designated client(s) create task-based learning journeys across systems.
• Partner with L+D Deployment, L+D Delivery, Continent Learning Leads / Communications / L+D Governance to implement and rollout learning programs as appropriate.
Project Management
• Partner with Learning Operations team to ensure that all projects are accounted for through Governance processes.
• Coordinates and implements work and projects for instructional designers, contractors, and/or external vendors (e.g., capacity management)
• Manages resource gaps across the DTT workstreams.
• Generates and provides accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc.
• Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
• Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
• Sets and tracks goal progress for self and others.
• Monitors the work of others to ensure it is completed on time and meets expectations.
• Partners with Sr. Director and Project Management to review and determine when assets need to on hold due to system readiness or functionality
• Reviews BRM and CR to identify impacted lessons and manage timelines dur to system outages as well as confirms new start dates and/or updates
• Provides direction and assistance to other organizational units' policies and procedures, and efficient control and utilization of resources.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
• BA/BS (or equivalent) in instructional design, human resources, or related field required.
• 7+ years of instructional design and development experience.
• Significant design and development experience and demonstrated ability in applying adult learning theory and iterative instructional design methodologies (i.e., Successive Approximation Model (SAM)), using a variety of innovative approaches.
• Strong development experience using Rapid Development tools, e.g., Articulate, Storyline, RISE, Synthesia, WhatFix, and Adobe Creative Cloud Applications.
• Experience consulting to business leaders, providing training design and development across multiple mediums (e.g. eLearning, video, in-tool support, instructor-led, virtual ILT)
• Experience managing third-party development contractors and vendors who produce training materials under Marriott's direction
• Experience leading the development of cutting-edge and digital learning programs for Systems.
• Experience managing complex programs and learning projects leveraging project management expertise.
Preferred Experience
• Graduate/post graduate degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, or related Education field.
• Demonstrated success working in a complex, service-intensive, deadline-driven environment associated with consumer, marketing, or loyalty initiatives
• Demonstrated success in working with and influencing cross-functional work teams in a matrix organization
• Demonstrated success managing multiple projects on time and on budget
• Demonstrated ability to make decisions in a timely manner sometimes with incomplete information, under tight deadlines and in high pressure situations
• Project management certification.
• Proven experience in development of multiple learning modalities, i.e., digital mobile, online.
• History of consistently delivering positive business results
• History of developing others and self in the learning discipline
• History of external involvement in professional associations and learning-related organizations
Knowledge and Skills
• Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment; experience operating in a matrix environment.
• Strong communication and directional capabilities when working with an external vendor to ensure development success.
• Ability to work with multiple stakeholders at varying levels of management with credibility.

• Possess strong content writing ability, oral communication skills, creativity, attention to detail and excellent proofing and editing skills.

The pay range for this position is $60.38 to $79.33 per hour.
