Job Description For Director, Global Privacy - EMEA
Location: We offer flexibility within Ireland; however, the ideal candidate should be based in or near Cork. Candidates applying from outside of Ireland must be willing to relocate to Cork.
Job Summary
Marriott International is seeking a Director, Global Privacy - EMEA to support the ongoing development and implementation of Marriott's Global Privacy Program in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This role will focus on ensuring compliance with privacy, data security, artificial intelligence, and digital laws, while providing expert guidance to the business.
The Director will play a key role in supporting Marriott's privacy governance, policy development, training initiatives, risk assessments, and regulatory inquiries. Working closely with internal stakeholders, the role will help drive privacy initiatives and integrate privacy best practices into Marriott's operations.
This is a full-time role based in Cork, Ireland, requiring occasional travel.
Key Responsibilities
Privacy Program Management
- Support the establishment of privacy policies, procedures, and processes for EMEA.
- Lead privacy-related projects, including project planning, stakeholder coordination, and budget control.
- Maintain records of processing activities for Marriott's operations throughout EMEA.
- Advise on cross-border data transfers, including drafting and reviewing agreements.
- Monitor regulatory changes and provide recommendations for risk mitigation in areas such as AI, AdTech, and digital technologies.
Business Support & Compliance - Provide guidance to hotels and corporate teams on privacy-related issues, including data subject requests, regulatory inquiries, and vendor agreements.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs).
- Advise on marketing privacy requirements, cookies, and digital compliance.
- Assist with inquiries from law enforcement and regulatory inquiries.
Governance & Stakeholder Engagement - Facilitate Senior Leadership Privacy Committee meetings, prepare materials, and support key decisions.
- Prepare privacy metrics and reports for leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Represent Marriott in industry discussions and regulatory forums.
Training & Awareness - Develop and deliver privacy training programs to business teams in EMEA.
- Provide training to the Law Department and other business units on privacy clauses in contracts.
- Raise awareness about Marriott's Global Privacy Program through strategic communications.
Candidate ProfileExperience & Skills - 10+ years of professional experience, with at least 3+ years in Privacy, Legal, or Compliance.
- Strong understanding of EU privacy laws, GDPR, and emerging data protection regulations.
- Experience with data governance, privacy risk assessments, and compliance monitoring.
- Legal degree is a plus; Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification recommended.
- Strong analytical and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives.
- Effective stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Experience in change management and process improvement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, collaboration tools, and enterprise content management systems.
- Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
