W Punta de Mita unveils chic transformation inspired by the magic of Nayarit
The region’s leading lifestyle hotel reveals multi-million-dollar renovation, setting the scene for an elevated and expertly curated guest experience
RIVIERA NAYARIT (December 2022) – Inspired by the area’s rich history and vibrant culture, W Punta de Mita has been a mainstay among travelers since welcoming its first guests in 2016. Fresh off the heels of a $3 million renovation inclusive of its jungle view guest rooms, oceanfront suites, restaurants, and public spaces, the resort is sporting a modern and sophisticated look that embraces local nature and speaks to its destination-driven ethos.
Setting the tone for W Punta de Mita’s enhancements is the W brand’s recently reimagined approach in how they cater to today’s traveler – the culture-seeker who craves enriching and transformational experiences, connection, and community. At the resort’s newly redesigned Living Room and Welcome Area, a prime social hub and gathering spot, modern furnishings decorated with handmade native artwork bring the local culture in while a brand-new boutique called La Caty is dedicated exclusively to local designers. Redesigned interiors with hammocks and cozy spaces for lounging are adjacent to a bar illuminated with a show-stopping chandelier designed to look like votive candles on a church of renda and centered around a runway made up of more than 750,000 individual mosaic tiles with designs inspired by the local Wixarika tribe. It stretches all the way out to the ocean with a set of stairs designed to represent the ups and downs of life.
Dotting a secluded stretch of beachfront edged with lush jungle tucked beneath the towering Sierra Madre Mountains, W Punta de Mita’s accommodations showcase the unspoiled beauty of its unique location with lakefront vistas and sweeping coastal and ocean views. Custom décor sourced from local artisans immerses guests in the traditions of the native Huichol tribe, with bursts of color and whimsical homages to the area’s bohemian surf culture. The resort’s Spectacular Jungle Rooms tucked amid layers of towering palm trees have been reimagined into tropical paradises complete with new plunge pools, outdoor showers, hammocks, and plush loungers. Steps from the shoreline, the property’s newly reimagined Haven Suites with private terraces tout the addition of gardens and fire pits.
With a design that’s inspired by the legend of local tribes who fled from the desert to the mountains during the Spanish conquest, the redesigned spacious beachfront suites feature organic colors and materials, rich woods, and textures reminiscent of the earth that harmoniously blend with the natural surroundings. A hide-and-reveal concept surprises travelers with a unique sequence of experiences, beginning with spacious, open-air bathrooms filled with plants that feature floors made up of a mosaic of smooth, round stones, with a flood of natural light illuminating the space. As the resort continues to grow its room inventory into 2023, there are plans to debut an additional eight new suites; five Marvelous Beachfront Suites with large soaking tubs set within indoor gardens, two Fantastic Beachfront Suites with private rooftops that boast unparalleled ocean views and a completely redesigned signature E-Wow Suite that boasts a kitchen with white marble walls and countertops and an ocean-facing living and dining room with floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
At Wet TOO, the Instagram-worthy, adults-only pool known for its signature transparent wall that faces the ocean, a redesigned pool deck, new boho-inspired furnishings, and the addition of full-service beverage & food offerings give visitors an excuse to decamp and soak in the views. A complete renovation of one of the resort’s two beachfront restaurants, a seafood eatery that flanks the pool, is slated to open mid-December 2022.
Also set to debut next spring is Rubra, a restaurant by Mexican celebrity chef Daniela Soto-Innes, who showcases her culinary talents at Cosme and Atlas in NYC alongside Casamata culinary group partners Santiago Perez and Enrique Olvera, whose concepts include Pujol in Mexico City and the brand-new Damian in Los Angeles. Soto-Innes has won numerous accolades in her career, from James Beard’s Rising Star Chef of the Year to the World’s Best Female Chef from the World’s 50 Best Awards.
“Our goal was never to completely transform the look of the resort,” explains General Manager David Gauna. “This project has been about leaning into what we do well and drawing from our incredible surroundings to create a sacred space where our guests can experience the destination in a relaxed and authentic way. As we move forward and the demand shifts, as is always the case, we’ll remain sensitive to the needs of our audience and continue to look for ways to evolve and remain on par with the world’s best players in luxury travel.”
