Champion Hyatt's Purpose and Values:
Leaders inspire others through their actions, knowing that what they say must mirror what they do in order to build trust and lead with integrity. They lead by example in genuinely caring for others and practicing the values in their daily work - and encourage others to do the same. In doing so, they create an environment for team wellbeing and all to succeed.
Practice empathy & inclusion
Practice means being proactive. When it comes to empathy and inclusion, it means demonstrating genuine curiosity and willingness to understand others' points of view and concerns. Leaders listen to and value diverse points of view and each individual's unique background. With this ongoing practice, leaders will create an environment where all colleagues feel safe to contribute and be fully engaged.
Act with integrity & respect
Actions speak louder than words, especially when it comes to building trust and showing respect. The actions to demonstrate integrity and respect include celebrating the success of others, active listening with a desire to fully understand, and interacting with openness and honesty.
Support team wellbeing
Leaders can support team wellbeing by using creativity, connection and positivity to energize the work and team environment. It also means learning to find a balance between work and personal -both for themselves and for their team. Leaders who practice self-care lead by example.
Experiment to Improve:
Leaders excel when they have a mindset that's eager to grow and improve in all areas of their work. They are not satisfied with the status quo and focus on delivering stakeholders' needs. Actions aren't just based on a "feeling," but instead are rooted in a pattern of prioritizing with data and then testing and learning along the way. As a result, the experience for all stakeholders is improved.
Demonstrate a growth mindset
If you aren't moving forward, you're falling behind. The best way to move forward is to continuously improve, which begins with a mindset that's growing is good and worthy of taking on new challenges. All individuals can keep growing their abilities, skills and knowledge -regardless of leadership level. This behavior also applies to work projects, initiatives, and processes. Leaders who demonstrate a growth mindset see -and achieve -more of what's possible.
Prioritize with data
Data helps you see a situation more clearly, and -in turn -builds confidence in decision-making and results in better outcomes. Data comes in many forms -quantitative and qualitative -but all begins with being curious. Leaders who seek and consider diverse viewpoints as further data points are better equipped to prioritize decisions effectively.
Test & learn
Ideas become reality in an environment that practices a consistent agile methodology of testing with a small group, learning what worked (and what didn't), then adjusting and testing again -repeating the iterative process and seeing setbacks as ways to learn. An open mind, creativity and flexibility to try new ways of doing things are important attributes, which -when combined with a sense of urgency to make improvements -creates a leap toward success.
Understand the needs of others
To understand, you must first know. This means building rapport and asking questions. Then, once you have the knowledge, understand how your role may help deliver on the needs of others. "Others" includes all stakeholders that you interact with, such as guests, members, customers and colleagues.
Drive for Impact:
Leaders bring the most value when they mobilize their team to move in the same direction and, in doing so, accomplish more when they work together. To be effective, leaders must set their sights ahead on the outcomes they're aiming to achieve and bring this view into focus for their teams by communicating the vision. Leaders empower their team members to be in the driver's seat, ensuring accountability and providing input as needed along the way.
Focus on outcomes
A clear destination creates a pathway to optimal productivity -knowing how to identify what activities will yield the best results and how to prioritize effectively. By keeping focused on the end goal, leaders are able to make better decisions and proactively allocate the right amount of time and resources to achieve the most important priorities.
Ensure accountability
To be accountable simply means to know what you're supposed to do, by when and with what resources -and then go do it. While this may seem straightforward, leaders help keep themselves and others accountable for their actions by owning decisions and also providing timely and direct feedback on performance. Being accountable and accepting responsibility also instills a sense of pride and achievement upon success.
Break down silos
No one works in isolation; each role connects to and impacts others. It's important to have a full understanding about how your role and team fits within the larger organization so that you can take responsibility for proactively connecting with other teams. With this big-picture view, you'll see more opportunities open up for collaboration and cooperation -and with a shared understanding, you'll be able to better prioritize your efforts for mutual rewards.
Communicate & influence
Listening is a virtue, but so is speaking up -especially when you proactively share knowledge, information and feedback that can help others perform better. Leaders also help "connect the dots" in how day-to-day tasks impact larger team and organizational goals. Leaders also should exert their influence to inspire others to be -and do -their best.
Develop Diverse Talent:
Leaders succeed when others succeed. This mutuality comes to
life when leaders openly share their knowledge and experience and provide opportunities for others through increasing responsibilities and career choices. Leaders play the role of coach and mentor by helping to navigate barriers and opening up opportunities to connect with their networks. Leaders grow the talent pipeline and grow the business -and, in doing so, grow their own career path.
Coach & mentor
Ongoing development -both formally through a plan and also informally through on-the-spot two-way conversations -is paramount to ongoing improvement in growing capabilities and careers. Leaders can help grow others' careers when they proactively identify opportunities to coach and mentor colleagues with different backgrounds and experiences.
Foster connections
Hyatt colleagues rely on relationships to get things done, and the power of these connections is exponential when they are intentionally pursued with those who come from different backgrounds and experiences. The more people you know, the more your world expands. Strong connections with colleagues are instrumental in collecting input into decisions and solving challenges. Leaders are generous with their networks, and proactively seek connections with others beyond their own function and background.
Enable success
Leaders can best enable success when they provide guidance and direction about what outcomes need to be achieved and connect their team's work to Hyatt's purpose and values. In addition, they allocate the resources needed to reach those outcomes, then get out of the way so that the team members can make decisions and take independent action.
