This Indian-Origin Restauranteur In London Serving Meals To Needy Gets Into UK’s Honours List 2022.
Amritpal Singh Maan, an Indian-origin restauranteur in London, has been featured in in the UK’s ‘New Years Honours List’ for distributing nearly 200,000 meals to the needy during the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lovingly called ‘Amrit Maan’ in the British Sikh community, he is the current Managing Director of the London restaurant ‘Punjab’. This was the first-ever Punjabi restaurant to be launched in London in the year 1946. Amrit Maan’s great-grandfather had set up this restaurant in the Covent Garden of London. Today, it is one of the most iconic restaurants in London serving delectable Punjabi food.
The Queen awarded Amrit Maan with the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his charitable contributions to the society. Taking to Twitter, Amrit Maan thanked his earlier generations who had instilled the spirit of ‘seva’ or ‘selfless service’ in him. Amrit Maan wrote, “Literally honoured – Amrit Maan OBE! Thank you for all the messages of congratulations. This is for those that came before me and inspired the spirit of seva in me and the many I’ve worked alongside who strive to make a difference.” According to an ANI report, speaking about the honour, Amrit Maan has said that seva has been the ethos of his family business since it has established and added that he accepted the order on behalf of him and also his previous generations.
