Job Description
The In Room Dining Server has a passion to anticipate, meet and exceed our guests' needs, while ensuring the highest levels of quality and cleanliness in all areas of Food and Beverage Operations.
Compensation: $15.93 - $21.24 per Hour (Plus Gratuitites)
Responsibilities
- Arrival
- Report to manager at scheduled time in uniform, fully groomed according to The Plaza Standards with all personal service supplies on hand.
- Clock-in in uniform at scheduled time for your shift.
- Read communication board/log book.
- Pre-Shift
- Communicate with out going shift, if applicable.
- Participate in departmental meetings and shift line-ups.
- Know your shifts and station assignments.
- Complete all opening side work regularly, promptly, and correctly and receive Manager Signature upon completion.
- Know the ingredients, preparation, and proper presentation of all menu items and specials and ensure that every product delivered to the guest adheres to the highest quality possible.
- Service
- Provide prompt, courteous and efficient food, beverage and Amenity service
- Answer all phone calls directed to In Room Dining within 3 rings using the guest names.
- Demonstrate The Plaza Standards in all interactions.
- Demonstrate an attitude of friendly hospitality in every aspect of service.
- Remains observant and responds to each guest at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and condition of the work areas and equipment.
- Perform all assigned side work regularly, promptly, and correctly.
- Effectively handle guest concerns.
- Make appropriate suggestion of food and beverages; employs suggestive selling and up selling techniques and cross promotion of F&B Outlets.
- Service beverage orders promptly according to standards.
- Perform wine service according to procedures.
- Assist in timing food orders correctly to ensure they come up at the proper time.
- Ensure service trays and tables are up to Plaza Standards before presenting it to a guest.
- Clean and set all trays and tables in accordance to The Plaza standards
- Remove all delivered items from the guest rooms 60 to 90 minutes after delivery.
- Conduct floor walks as instructed by the Manager or Sales Agent to check floors for any trays, tables or dishes. Collect any items and return them to the Stewarding Area.
- Assist with retrieving service equipment from stewarding areas and re-stocking IRD.
- Conduct expiration tracking on a daily basis and report upcoming expiration dates to manager.
- Be able to perform all cash handling procedures
- Work closely with Butlers to ensure detailed, customized and engaging service.
- Post-Shift
- Ensure your workstation is clean, re-stocked, neat, and in order.
- Bring all glassware, silverware and china back to the stewarding area and break down dirty tables and trays.
- Complete all closing side work regularly, promptly, and correctly and receive Manager Signature upon completion.
- Leave
- Communicate with incoming shift, if applicable.
- Anticipate uniform needs for next scheduled shift.
- Clock out before changing out of uniform.
- General
- Ensure adherence to Fairmont's Code of Ethics; ensure all situations are handled with our values in mind - Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Empowerment.
- Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Fairmont standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming outlined by The Plaza grooming Policy.
- Be able to perform a variety of Guest requests and think creatively when called upon in order to establish a memorable experience for every Guest and Member
- Follows Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
- Report suspicious people and behavior to Security.
- Report any problems to manager on duty.
- Follows Hotel's telephone etiquette standards.
- Comply promptly with all special request of management.
- Communicate pleasantly and courteously with guests, management, and co-workers.
- Knowledge of all communication systems including phones, radios etc.
- Know layout of In Room Dining/hotel and location of all equipment and supplies.
- Know all IRD station breakdowns.
- Knowledge of all other F&B Outlets; including Rose Club, Champagne Bar and Palm Court. Knowledge includes menus, wine and cocktail programs and special events
- Know all of the IRD menus; including Breakfast, All Day Dining, Late Night Dining, Suite Functions/ Hospitality, Eloise Kids Menu, Private Bar and Amenity menus.

Qualifications
- Proficient in the English language (verbal & written), second language is an asset.
- Basic computer knowledge (Micros, Opera, Microsoft, etc.).
- Previous food and beverage experience in a luxury hotel setting is an asset.
- Must be able to lift trays of food or food items up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to transport trays up to 50 pounds through the kitchen to Guest Rooms
- Must be able to stand and walk throughout entire shift.
- Must have a very flexible schedule including Nights, weekends and holidays.
- Food handling certificate is an asset.
- Must be able to work with and serve alcohol
- Knowledge of food, wine, spirits and cocktails
- Excellent eye for detail and the ability to multi-task.
- Team player and willing to help out throughout IRD and other Food and Beverage outlets.
- Must possess outstanding guest services skills and professional presentation.
- Must be effective at handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
- Must be effective at listening, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by guests.

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to): - Frequent standing and walking throughout shift

- Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
