Job Description
- Clean, polish, and restore metals such as brass, stainless steel, copper, and aluminum in public areas, guest rooms, hallways, elevators, and mechanical rooms.
- Polish door handles, elevator buttons, stair rails, light fixtures, and other metallic components to maintain their luster and avoid tarnishing.
- Address metal corrosion or wear and, if necessary, report these issues for repair or replacement.
- Polish and clean machinery parts, including those used in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), plumbing systems, and electrical components, to ensure smooth operation and longevity.
- Inspect and maintain tools like pumps, valves, or air conditioning units for signs of rust or damage.
- Keep power equipment and machinery that is exposed to public view polished and free from dirt or debris.
- Clean and polish decorative metal or glass items, such as sculptures, lighting fixtures, and chandeliers.
- Inspect decorative fixtures regularly for signs of damage, such as tarnishing, rust, or discoloration, and make recommendations for repair or replacement.
- Ensure polished fixtures are in line with the hotel's aesthetic standards, ensuring a professional and welcoming atmosphere.
- Work closely with housekeeping, maintenance, and facilities teams to ensure polished items are ready and available when needed.
- Maintain polished public spaces (e.g., lobbies, lounges) to enhance the guest experience by ensuring cleanliness and shine.
- Handle polishing chemicals and tools safely, following the hotel's safety standards to prevent damage to surfaces or risk of injury.
Qualifications
- Understanding of various polishing methods for different materials (e.g., metal, glass, wood, marble) and knowing which techniques are most effective for each.
- Knowledge of common hotel equipment and fixtures that require polishing, such as elevator buttons, door handles, metal railings, and light fixtures.
- Familiarity with various cleaning and polishing agents used for different surfaces, including chemicals, abrasives, and polishes that are safe for hotel use.
- Understanding of the role of polishing in overall preventive maintenance to protect equipment and fixtures from corrosion, rust, and wear.
- Ability to follow safety regulations, such as wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, goggles, or aprons, and working in well-ventilated areas.
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure that surfaces are not only clean but also polished to perfection, free from streaks, scratches, or tarnish.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work quickly and efficiently, and maintain high standards despite time constraints.
