Job Description
Reports To: VP, Hotel Operations
Supervises: One to three Sales Managers and/or Coordinators
General Purpose: The Area Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for maximizing all revenues coming in to the assigned hotels while maintaining excellent customer service for both internal and external customers
Specific Responsibilities:
- Efforts will include, but not be limited to, hiring, training and management of sales and yield management teams, analysis and reporting of sales metrics, oversight of all events from a brand perspective; management of advertising, electronic outreach and public relations efforts to all market segments and oversight of all print and electronic communication tools
- Directly responsible for achieving and maximizing all assigned hotels' revenues while consistently delivering the best service, quality and value to every customer, every time.
- Maintains effective and positive involvement with key community and networking organizations.
- Analyzes assigned hotels' demand segments, sources of business for each market and demand segment, and manages pricing and rooms inventories to maximize revenues and profits
- Knows the principal competition for each segment and leverage hotel's relative strengths against each
- Meets or exceeds sales goals for group bookings/corporate accounts, new leads, contacts and number of weekly sales calls
- Personally demonstrates a commitment to customer service by soliciting and responding promptly to guest needs
- Finalizes contracts for group bookings
- Converses with hotels department heads to plan function details, such as space requirements, publicity, time schedule, food service and decorations
- Executes cut-off dates on group bookings
- Plans and conducts pre-cons and post-cons
- Prepares and mails brochures, menus to prospective clients
- Analyzes requirement of function, outline available hotels facilities and service offered and quote pricing
- Assists in planning and participating in sales blitz for each property
- Aggressively pursues all appropriate opportunities for outside customer solicitation and relationship building
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.
Qualifications
- Computer competency required: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Database Management, and Web Browsing.
- Must be positive, results oriented and able to work under pressure
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with a diverse group of team members including sales managers, food and beverage staff, public relations professionals and journalists
- Demonstrated sales ability
- Proven success with prospecting and solicitation of new business
- Must be available to work some nights and/or weekends. Position requires dedication to clients and a minimum of 45 to 55 hours per week
- Ability to identify and develop accounts with individual guest room needs
- Ability to effectively communicate with customers in a friendly and positive manner, in order to solicit business, meet client needs and resolve concerns
- Strong sales skills with thorough knowledge of sales techniques, ability to up sell products and services, and proven closing ability
- Ability to anticipate and analyze client needs and effectively negotiate pricing
- Knowledge of contractual agreements and associated legal implications.
- Aggressive, self-motivated work habits.
- Knowledge of Hotel operations, services, and facilities.
- Knowledge of Food and Beverage and Banquets and Catering
- Must pass a background check
Education/Formal Training:
- Bachelor's Degree required
Experience:
- Minimum ten years of hotel sales and management experience required.
Travel Requirements
- Travel will be required to assigned properties on a regular basis.
- Some further travel may be required for conferences and other meetings.
