Purpose Statement
For the safety and safe navigation of the ship and safety of its passengers and crew with the highest operational standards, the Environmental Officer (EO) is a 3-stripe, non-watch standing senior officer that is responsible to
administer the company's Environmental Program, and Environmental Management System (EMS).

General Responsibilities
To ensure that the ship is following all applicable local, state, and federal and international environmental laws and regulations.
To advise and assist the Master, Chief Engineer, and other senior ship management, including all department heads on environmental compliance, policies and procedures, and its implementation onboard.
To ensure that all outstanding environmental compliance items requiring corrective action are completed in a timely manner.
To support response to and report unauthorized releases or spills into the environment to the Master, Marine Operations Department, and the Designated Person.
To plan, organize, and oversee garbage offloads, send waste declarations to port agent as deemed necessary.
To maintain monthly inspection record of PPE in assigned areas.
Input waste data into NavInsight, Port Summary and Quarterly Report as required for waste logs.
To prepare Environmental Voyage Plan in conjunction with Navigational Officer as related to Waste Landing, Sludge Offload, Bilge Water discharge, Grey/Black Water Discharge, Food discharge/landing (where applicable), Fuel Compliance usage, Air Emissions Regulation and Incinerator usage, Soot Blow, Ship's Maintenance in port as
related to hull wash-down and touch painting.
To regularly review all environmental logs and records, including (but not limited to):
Oil Record Book, Garbage Record Book, Grey & Black Waterlog, Pool and Jacuzzi Log, Fuel Switch Log, Ballast Waterlog, Bunkering Operations Documentation, Waste Landing manifests, Weekly Waste Summary etc. for completeness and accuracy.
To evaluate environmental systems and procedures to determine compliance, quality, effectiveness, and compatibility with other shipboard systems in cooperation with the Technical Department or at the explicit request of the Marine Operations Department.
Assume other responsibilities stated on Deck Management Manual for the effective and efficient implementation of EMS.
Record keeping and supervising of all Hazmat storage on board (SDS and inventory lists)
Environmental Rounds
Conduct daily rounds of machinery space including pollution prevention equipment, valves, and bilge/ballast crossover valves.
Conduct Environmental Rounds focusing on areas of ship with high potential risk for pollution/ environmental non-compliance. Report Significant and Repeat findings in Captains Formal Meeting.
Areas include chemical lockers, pollution prevention equipment, oily water
Financial Responsibilities
Maintain Weekly Waste Summary and based on ship's specifics to provide assistance to Marine Operations Department in preparing Waste Disposal Operational Budget
Ensure approved Waste Disposal Operational plan and Budget is followed as planned
Ensure that Company property is maintained properly and treated with respect at all times
Safety Responsibilities
Must be familiar with Crystal Cruises Safety Management Manuals
Shall always use Personal Protective Equipment in the work area.
Must have knowledge of boom deployment and usage (deploy boom as appropriate). Always review the SOPEP inventory and ensure adequate supplies onboard.
To do In Port Manning duties as scheduled and as required by Company policy.
Emergency Duties:
To follow instructions noted on Safety Card.
To participate in Guest/Crew Lifeboat Drills as per instructions.
Assume other responsibilities as stated on Station Bill.
Team Education & Training
Provide Environmental Trainings to all crew including but not limited to Environmental familiarization and Waste Separation for new sign on crew, Chemicals Storage and Handling, PPE usage as applicable to positions, refresh Environmental and Waste Separation training to all crew.
Provide knowledge building and refresher trainings around all departments.
Education/Position Requirements
Minimum 3 years' seagoing experience
Holds all relevant STCW certificate as needed for this position and designated Emergency duties
Preferably Marine (Deck/Engine) Transportation/Engineering background
Environmental Officer course certificate

USPH Course Training
Knowledge of the applicable environmental policies and all applicable local and international Environmental Laws and Regulations
In depth knowledge of MARPOL and recent amendments/regulations
Must hold all valid STCW certificates that are required for the position as per Training Manual Appendix 1.
Must be fluent in written and spoken English (needs to score at least 90% in the onboard English proficiency test).
Must have very good administrative skills (proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, and AMOS-W).

Good disposition management handling stress and pressure
In depth knowledge and understanding of Crystal Basics.

To attend USPH and M&R Meetings as scheduled.
To communicate with the Master, Vice-Captain, Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer and Hotel Director on a regular basis and to keep them updated on all important issues.
