Position Description:
We are looking for experienced 2ND OFFICER ( watch keeper ) for cruise vessel MITSUI OCEAN FUJI ready to join the vessel on 12/Feb/2025
Contract 4 months +/-1
Salary in USD/per month worked - will be advised upon interview.
Valid C1D visa is mandatory.
In aspects related to watch-keeping responsibilities, the 2nd Officer directly subordinates to the OOW; while for issues pertained to other specific responsibilities is also subordinate to the Captain and Staff Captain.
- In performing their watch-keeping duties the 2nd Officer should be familiar with the voyage plan and the Captain's standing and specific orders. In cooperation with the OOW the 2nd Officer shall ensure that due consideration is given to all safety, security and environmental regulations. Any incidents or significant events must be reported immediately and action should be taken as the situation dictates.
- Must be familiar with the SQM and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
- As Assistant Safety Officer he/she will assist the Safety Officer to carry out his duties and responsibilities as listed under Safety Officer JDS-4.
- As with all ships officers and crew, the 2nd Officer should always strive to be the best ambassador of the company in dealing with passengers and outside entities alike.
OTHER DUTIES
The 2nd Officer will be assigned other duties, besides the watch-keeping duties. Depending on their nature, these duties will be supervised and monitored by the OOW, the Safety Officer or the Staff Captain. The 2nd Officer will assist with maintaining records, the condition and operational status of any equipment or component associated within his area of responsibility.
May be required to tests and maintain on a daily, weekly and monthly basis a per SOLAS
and ISM regulations, all emergency supply sources (Accumulators, batteries and
uninterrupted power supply) of all emergency equipment located in the Bridge and Radio
Room. The GMDSS assigned operator (GO Officer) daily, weekly, monthly tests of GMDSS
Equipment including the related entries of the GMDSS Radio Log Book.
The 2nd Officer must ensure that any subordinates assigned to them are given the necessary instruction for the proper performance in their duties.
Distribution of duties will be subject to individual evaluation and they may be temporary within a service term, specific vessel or itinerary. In any case, the Captain or the Staff Captain must ensure that this issue is clearly communicated and that the specific expectations are explained to the individual officers.
Specific supervisory duties and field responsibilities are described below:
Navigation Assists the Chief Officer Navigation in ensuring that the ship carries adequate and up to date charts and the appropriate nautical publications. He is responsible to apply the appropriate corrections to the charts and nautical publications.
Assists in the preparation of the vessel's passage plan, voyage report, daily position reports and the pilot's info sheet.
He / She is responsible for the flags inventory in general and the maintenance of the bridge emergency signals and communications. (Pyrotechnics, GMDSS portable radios, EPIRB, SART).
Lifesaving The 2nd Officer may be required to assists in the supervision, maintenance and repair of all lifesaving appliances. (Survival crafts, rescue boats, launching appliances, pilot ladders).
Ensure that they conform to the applicable laws and regulations of SOLAS, Class Authorities, U.S. Coast Guard and Flag State.
He / She may be required supervise the testing of the fire screen doors on a weekly basis, ensuring that all fire screen doors are tested for function at least monthly. This Watch-keeping Officer shall consult the technical department if any mechanical or technical problems are found, and shall also enter the tests in the maintenance system. The Staff Captain shall be informed accordingly.
Whenever needed, the officer shall get assistance from the Staff Captain and Chief Engineer for technical or other problems needing special skills or work force.
Safety TrainingFurthermore, all Watch keeping officers shall, in conjunction with the Safety Officer, Security Officer and other marine officers, train the crew, both in regular drills and in smaller groups, to ensure that the entire crew is familiar with their duties in the Safety Organization
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCEThe 2nd Officer shall be familiar with the Safety, Quality Management System SQM, the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill, the content and use of the NPP Manual, the STCW Convention and the Bridge Procedures Guide, 3rd Edition (Int'l Chamber of Shipping).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
- Holds appropriate OOW license and certificates as required by regulations and Flag Endorsements.
- Hold a GMDSS Certificate.
- Has full knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the company' SQM related to his/her position.
- Have a full knowledge and understanding of his/her emergency duties and the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill, the content and use of the NPP Manual, the STCW Convention and the Bridge Procedures Guide, latest Edition. (Int'l Chamber of Shipping).
- Fluent in English (written and verbal). Good communication skills
- Previous experience as a Watch Officer
Internal Candidate Requirements: In addition to the stated hiring requirements, internal candidates are required to fulfill the following:
Completion of one contract with a performance rating of satisfactory or above.

- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
- Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
- Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French or German preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must occasionally/frequently/continually lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS

• Extensive travel from ship to ship with varying accommodations and resting opportunities require good health. Active management of health through diet and exercise is a key for prolonged success in the position
