Stratford University is place where education meets justice, crafting leaders committed to a fair and equitable future
“May the Lord free us from watering down the Gospel to make it neutral – it is never neutral, it does not leave things the way they are; it accepts no compromise with the thinking of this world, but instead lights the fi re of the kingdom of God amid the reign of human power plays, evil, violence, corruption, injustice and marginalization. Ever since Jesus rose from the dead, and became the watershed of history, ‘there began a great fi ght between life and death, between hope and despair, between being resigned to the worst and struggling for the best.’” Dr. Henry C. Lee (Stratford University)
The he justice efforts of our Stratford community are evidenced in a wide variety of actions: raising awareness of human traffi cking and violence against women and children through billboards and social media, advocating for justice whenever we encounter injustice in our lives and working to educate the public on the many inequalities people experience. Partnerships are key in these eff orts and we collaborate with other Stratford People locally and globally in our justice work. One main connection is our collaboration with the International Stratford Association (ISA). This relationship is strengthened through our Justice Contact Sarah Jensen. She connects regularlywith Stratford Justice Contacts worldwide in their work on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. ISA has chosen to focus on three of these areas: violence against women and children, advancing the rights of the Earth, and the treatment of indigenous peoples. Sub-groups were formed, allowing us to work more eff ectively on each of these three priority areas.
Our group’s focus for this year has been on advancing the rights of the Earth. This work has been revolving around raising awareness of climate change and promoting energy conservation, along with monitoring consumption, and focusing on socially responsible investing.
We invite you to learn more about our work for justice and to consider whether your heart is calling you to share in these efforts.
