Vikas Khanna was recently recognized as the Celebrity Chef of the Year at the 2nd Indian Hospitality Excellence Awards of the year.

Indians worldwide are celebrating Children’s Day today, which follows a leader's birthday. However, someone with the same affection for kids is celebrating their birthday today. Vikas Khanna is celebrating his 51st birthday today, November 14. 

Vikas Khanna doesn't need an introduction. He's a household name in India who is loved for his affectionate smile, charming demeanor, and unmatched talents. He is a pioneer and has made significant contributions to the East and West culinary world. 

Filmmaker, Writer, Producer, Director, Oscar nominee, Photographer, model, MasterChef, Restauranteur, and Humanitarian Vikas Khanna wears many hats. His work, dedication, and desire to learn and invent new things, not only finely curated Indian delicacies but novels and movies, is inconceivable.

Born with a limb abnormality (club foot), Vikas was raised in Amritsar, India. He was unable to run until he was 13 years old. His grandmother, who loved to cook, inspired him and provided him with a solid grounding in the kitchen. 

The inspiration from his grandmother encouraged him to create new recipes at a very early age. By 17, he established Lawrence Gardens Banquets to cater weddings and family gatherings. The urge to learn carved his path. In 1991, he received his degree in hospitality management from the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration. 

Before exploring new horizons in New York City, Vikas worked with Taj hotels, Oberoi Hotels, WelcomHotels, and Leela Group of Hotels in India. He knew there was more to his journey. His desire for learning was still intact. He relocated to New York and worked with several companies before being rewarded a Michelin Star by the Michelin Guide for six consecutive years.  

Vikas has hosted five seasons of Masterchef India and was also invited as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia. He has hosted four seasons of the show Twist of Taste on Fox Life. 

In addition to promoting Indian cuisine, Vikas has vowed to make religious principles known worldwide. He has illustrated the connection between faith and food in his documentary series Holy Kitchens.

The series has been featured at film festivals at Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, and Oxford universities. 

Cooking will always be his first love, but Vikas expanded his talents into the film industry. As a director, his first film, "The Last Color," premiered at the 71st Cannes Film Festival and made the final cut for Best Film Oscar 2020 Eligibility. Vikas also wrote the screenplay for the movie. 

This year saw the debut of his short film Barefoot Empress, which has garnered excellent reviews with a rating of 7.2/10. Following the release of the movie, Vikas's 39th book, "Barefoot Empress," was also launched today, on November 14, to commemorate his birthday.
