The Luxury Collection expands its legacy of unlocking remote and culturally vibrant escapes, inviting guests to explore the pristine wonders of South Caicos Island.

BETHESDA, MD (March 10, 2025) – The Luxury Collection, part of Marriott Bonvoy's portfolio of over 30 extraordinary hotel brands, today announces the grand opening of Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos, the brand’s first property in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Situated on the idyllic shores of South Caicos Island, this luxurious haven invites guests to immerse themselves in the natural beauty, world-class watersports, exquisite dining, and cultural experiences that define the destination.
"The Luxury Collection embodies the art of curation, bringing together an exceptional portfolio of unique hotels in some of the world’s most captivating and unexpected destinations,” says Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, The Luxury Collection. “We are thrilled to introduce Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos as the latest addition to our expanding global footprint, offering travelers a gateway to South Caicos — a serene, lesser-explored corner of the Caribbean known for its picturesque beauty and rich maritime heritage. With its nature-inspired design, elevated culinary experiences, and world-class eco-adventures, this resort epitomizes the brand’s destination-first philosophy, where every property reflects the soul of its locale and acts as a portal to authentic cultural discovery."
A Sanctuary Shaped by the Elements
With architecture by award-winning firm TVS and interior design by acclaimed Edge of Architecture, led by 2020 Gold Key Awards Designer of the Year Malcolm Berg, the resort’s design reflects the essence of South Caicos’ natural landscapes. The resort’s sophisticated concept is inspired by the island’s famed salt flats and tropical allure with cerulean, white, and rusty hues. The resort boasts 100 well-appointed guest rooms and suites crafted with regionally sourced materials, such as native wood, coral stone, and sisal, to create a sense of tranquility while enhancing the connection to the natural surroundings. The airiness of the accommodations is underscored by floor-to-ceiling windows and expansive balconies, which bring in abundant natural light and breathtaking seascape views, resulting in a harmonious design that integrates seamlessly with the island's environment.
Wellness in Harmony with Nature
At the heart of the resort lies The Spa at Salterra, a sanctuary dedicated to enhancing well-being and rejuvenation. With eight luxurious treatment rooms, including two couple suites, and a carefully curated selection of world-class treatments designed to restore balance, the spa offers a tropical refuge where guests can revitalize both their body and mind. Inspired by the resort’s oceanic setting, the spa features a multisensory aqua thermal circuit with a salt sauna, steam room, aloe bar, and a rejuvenating hammam, harnessing the healing effects of water to wash away stress and fatigue. Whether guests choose to unwind in the outdoor lounge, soak in the hot tub, or enjoy the social pool, the spa offers an oasis for guests to immerse themselves in the present moment.
Epicurean Journeys
Every meal at Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos is an exploration of flavor, culture, and local ingredients. The resort offers six distinctive dining experiences, each showcasing the island’s rich culinary heritage. At the chic lobby bar Sisal, guests will discover the bounty of the region with ever-changing menus, featuring bites and cocktails made with fresh, seasonal local ingredients. After a day of exploring the island, guests can unwind with Latin-inspired cuisine and expert mixology set against the stunning backdrop of the resort’s private beach at Cobo Bar & Grill, the resort’s waterfront dining destination. The resort’s signature restaurant, Brine, offers an exquisite chef’s tasting menu, expertly paired with an extensive wine selection. The restaurant also offers a signature upon request Epicurean Moment, that consists of a 7-course menu that evolves with the seasons, inspired by a prized ingredient deeply rooted in the region’s history: salt, often referred to as "white gold." Regatta offers a laidback coastal ambiance where guests can enjoy British Caribbean fusion cuisine with golden hour views from the second-story terrace. For casual fare, Flamingo Café offers homemade gelato, local fruit smoothies, and crafted espresso, while Jack & Jenny’s, the resort’s food truck, serves a rotating menu of street food dishes infused with local influences.
World-Class Eco-Experiences
The resort sits by an expansive stretch of untouched white-sand beaches and the protected Admiral Cockburn Land & Sea National Park, offering a diverse array of adventures in unadulterated nature for every type of traveler. From watersports like kayaking and bone fishing to seasonal whale watching, guests can discover the natural wonders of South Caicos. The crystalline, calm waters of South Caicos provide the optimal conditions for diving and snorkeling, offering opportunities for close encounters with indigenous marine life in their aquatic sanctuary. Guests can join guided tours to explore local wildlife, uninhabited islands, and natural salt ponds, offering a rich immersive experience that sparks curiosity for travelers of all ages. The resort also presents a Salt Discovery Experience, part of the brand’s signature Destination Discovery offerings, where guests can journey through the storied salinas and learn about the salt trade heritage, while encountering unique wildlife that thrives in this ecosystem. To foster a deeper connection with the surrounding environment, the resort also offers coral reef restoration workshops in partnership with the South Caicos Coral Reef Consortium, offering guests an opportunity to leave the destination even better than they found it.
“Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos is more than just a resort; it’s a destination where elegance and the spirit of South Caicos intertwine,” Brian King, President of Marriott International's Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) region, said. “We are committed to offering guests a journey that celebrates the island’s natural beauty and cultural heritage while offering the unmatched luxury and service synonymous with The Luxury Collection.”
Commitment to Sustainability
The resort’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond eco-friendly amenities — it’s a core part of the resort’s philosophy. The resort harnesses the abundant sunlight of South Caicos to power its operations, driving efforts to meet over half of the resort’s energy needs through renewable sources. The industrial composting system at Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos processes food waste, plants, and paper, enriching the surrounding soil and promoting sustainable nutrient reuse. Recognizing the island's water limitations, the resort collects and desalinates seawater for drinking and harvests rainwater for irrigation. In addition, the resort has eliminated the use of single-use plastic bottles in all guest rooms, providing filtered water dispensers to encourage responsible hydration. The resort is committed to marine preservation through the Coral Reef Adoption Program. This initiative, developed in partnership with the School for Field Studies (SFS), the Turks & Caicos Reef Fund, and the Reef Institute, invites guests to sponsor segments of the reef, directly contributing to the preservation of vital ecosystems. These sustainable programs are built to aid in restoration efforts for local coral reefs, birds, and bonefish populations, as well as to develop forward-thinking solutions to sustainability challenges and preserve the destination’s natural beauty for future generations.
“This resort is a destination where luxury and sustainability come together in an extraordinary setting,” said Michael Tibbets, Managing Director of Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos. “South Caicos, with its untouched beaches and rich cultural heritage, offers a rare opportunity to reconnect with nature while indulging in the finest experiences the Caribbean has to offer.”
