Sanjay Subhash Zalate, Group General Manager, Express Group of Hotels
Sanjay Subhash Zalate has been recognized as one of the Commended General Managers in India for 2023, serving as the Group General Manager for Express Group of Hotels. Originally from Malegaon-Nashik, he was born and raised in Nasik, Maharashtra. He completed his Graduation in Hotel Management & Catering Technology from MSIHMCT – Pune (formerly FCI).
Sanjay's career in the hospitality industry started at "The Orchid" in Mumbai, where he initially worked as a Butler and later as a Management Trainee for three years. He then embarked on an enriching journey with the world's largest Cruise Line Company, "P&O Carnival Cruise Line," where he spent five years and had the opportunity to visit and work in around 30 countries across the globe. After this remarkable experience, he rejoined "The Orchid" Mumbai and served the organization for another four years.
In pursuit of learning and development, he joined the "Royal Orchid Group of Hotels" as a Food & Beverage Manager for two years. Following this, he became Group General Manager for Express Group of Hotels, leading Vadodara's well-known and Gujarat's first 4-star hotel for the past ten years.
With a rich experience of 24 years in the hospitality industry, Sanjay's professional accomplishments include completing his Masters's C.H.A (Certified Hotel Administrator) from the American Hotel & Lodging Education Institute. He has excelled in hotel operations, setting up new hotel properties, managing cruise line industries, and overseeing food and beverage service management. He is highly skilled in budgeting, planning, and supervising operations and developing service standards and operating procedures to optimize departmental performance.
Throughout his career, Sanjay has effectively managed high-profile guests, including the Indian President, Vice President, and RBI Governor. He possesses excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. As a planner and strategist, he has consistently contributed to the growth and success of businesses.
Sanjay's tenure at Express Group of Hotels has been marked by his efforts to upgrade infrastructure, guest services, and hospitality trends. He successfully enhanced the quality and value-for-money perception of the hotel, resulting in increased business from corporate clients.
Beyond his professional achievements, Sanjay highlights the importance of patience in the hospitality industry, a quality he has developed while working with diverse guests and handling various situations over the years.
