Dubai is hub for food lovers, mouth-watering cuisines from all over the world has made their home in the city that never sleeps. Indian food is loved by everyone and Bur Dubai has regained its power by getting another excellent food destination for Desi Food. Purani Dilli Dubai was launched yesterday at Four Points Sheraton Mankhool. I have recently visited Delhi, talking about Delhi and not talking about food is next to impossible. Delhi is another ultimate food destination. Purani Dilli Dubai has tried to bring the same flavor and touch for the residents of Dubai.
Cold sugarcane juice with the squeeze of lemon and black salt was outstanding welcome drink along with buttermilk (meethi lassi) and mint and lemon drink. Gol gappe, chaat, aloo tikki, kebabs were a total delight and tasted very delicious. Right when you arrive at the reception, the glance of a vibrant rickshaw will bring you back in the memory lane of India. And at the time of rising social media, perfect for the Instagram frame, Dazzling bangles, and authentic Indian ornaments were another attraction. The rangoli was ( floor decoration) made with marigold flowers and candles, the sweet scent of Jasmine garland was in the air, a total desi set-up. It felt somewhat like a festival combined with a wedding reception yesterday. The staff was dressed up in sarees and I actually felt underdressed, we actually went there after work so couldn’t get more time to change.
The auspicious day of Makar Sankranti which falls on January 14 every year was chosen for the launch of Purani Dilli Dubai. Makara Sankranti is an important pan-Indian solar festival, known by different names though observed on the same date, sometimes for multiple dates around the Makar Sankranti. The evening began with the live singing of Ganesh Vandana (prayer of Lord Ganesh), the deity who is worshipped at the beginning of every ritual/ festival/event and then moved to soothing Bollywood numbers.
The food was authentic, the menu is designed by Chef Rahman. He was humbly present at the event, asking the guests if the food is ok and if it required anything else. The starters were served, for me vegetarian aloo tikki, paneer tikka, veg kebab and mushroom nicely garnished by ring onions and other herbs. I loved the main course, dal makhni was quite rich, creamy, authentic and delicious, kadhai paneer (cottage cheese) and saag (season rich green leafy vegetables). The desserts were pista kheer (pistachio and rice pudding), beetroot halwa (sweet made of out of beetroot sautéed for hours in Indian butter and milk and garnished with nuts) instead of gajar halwa (carrot dessert) and Shahi Tukda (bread pudding).
The USP of every successful restaurant is ambiance, food quality, service and the FLAVOR. Purani Dilli won our hearts for the flavors of their food. We would definitely recommend and go back to visit again with family and friends. Thank you for having us.
