Movenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket Unveils Organic Vegetable and Herb Garden

Phuket, Thailand, 11 March 2019 - As part of the property’s constant efforts towards environmentally driven projects, Green Globe member Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach, a pioneer in sustainable tourism in Phuket is pleased to announce the debut of the hotel’s organic vegetable and herb garden.

Featuring a wide variety of vegetables, herbs and spices, the resort’s sustainable organic garden was developed not only to meet the needs of its daily operations but also to provide guests with fresh ingredients and organic produce.

Mr. Harold Rainfroy, the General Manager said, “Over the past few months, our landscaping, engineering and kitchen teams have been working closely together to develop this patch of land, to create an organic garden where we can grow our own produce. This project is also part of Planet 21, a program by AccorHotels which aims to provide a positive and sustainable hospitality experience to guests.”

The eco-inspired Phuket resort guarantees that environmentally-friendly gardening techniques are put into use, such as production of organic compost derived from biological waste and use of 100% eco-friendly fertilizers.

The resort’s kitchen team visits the garden daily to harvest fresh vegetables and herbs which include kale, bok choy, eggplant, chili, Thai basil and lemongrass. Edible flowers and other local spices also flourish in the sustainable garden.

With the launch of this new project, guests dining in one of the hotel’s food and beverage outlets are provided with truly organic goodness. Moreover, guests will have the opportunity to embark on a unique culinary journey with the resort’s Thai cooking classes on offer daily.

“Guests can experience 'garden-to-table' cuisine. On top of that, those joining us for a culinary session will be able to pick their own greens and spices needed for the day - and will be cooking close to nature in a traditional Thai-style kitchen within our sustainable vegetable garden.
