Huge relief for employers in Canada as International Students can now work 40 hours instead of 20 hours earlier.
During this time of economic recovery and expansion, employers encounter previously unheard-of difficulties locating and keeping the people they need. The Canadian government is making significant efforts to address the labor shortage.
Most Honourable Sean Fraser, the minister of immigration, refugees, and citizenship, stated today that the restriction on how many hours eligible post-secondary students can work off campus while classes are in session had been temporarily lifted from 20 hours per week to 40.
From November 15, 2022, through the end of 2023, Canadian international students who have off-campus employment permission included on their study permit will be subject to a 40-hour limit rather than the previous 20-hour restriction. This interim adjustment will also apply to foreign nationals who have already applied for a study permit as of today, providing their application is granted. With the implementation of this legislation, more international students will have the chance to work in Canada, and more workers will be available to support Canada's post-pandemic growth.
