Hyatt Capital Gate to be Rebranded as Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi
Marking the brand’s entry into the Middle East and will operate as an Andaz hotel in early Fall 2018.
An exciting development is coming soon to the capital city’s iconic Hyatt Capital Gate Abu Dhabi; the hotel is currently undergoing a rebranding into Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi, marking the brand’s entry into the Middle East. The hotel is owned by ADNEC, and will operate as an Andaz hotel in early Fall 2018.
The word andaz means “personal style” in Hindi, and the Andaz brand is aimed at those well-traveled guests whom search for inspiration and enriching experiences that expand their perspectives. Aligned with the brand’s ethos of bringing the local neighborhood to life, Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi will offer inspiring experiences, helping guests immerse themselves in their surroundings and make their stay feel like their own from the moment they begin their journey.
”The mission of the Andaz brand is to inspire experiences through expressions of local culture, which creates an excellent opportunity for us to support and showcase the hidden talents of the Emirates’ local artists and craftsmen. Through their works, visitors can explore unique and lasting perspectives on heritage and evolving change in our region. ADNEC is very pleased to focus investment on local Emirati and GCC artists for this collection, and to introduce a new forum to inspire, reflect, and explore,” said Mr. Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Group Chief Executive of ADNEC, the owners of the hotel.
ADNEC has engaged a premier art consultant to curate a collection of local art to be displayed throughout the hotel, and to be prominently featured in its new hotel lobby. The investment in art comprises more than 75% of the total hotel conversion budget. Andaz Capital Gate will also be home to the new 165 Below Gallery, a collaboration with local galleries, featuring revolving exhibitions of Emirati and regional artists for all to view, discover, and enjoy.
ADNEC has commissioned a piece by the artist Ms. Talin Hazbar. Ms. Hazbar has been globally recognized as one of the region’s stand out artists, with exhibitions across the UAE and Beijing. The bespoke piece will serve as a focal point for welcoming guests upon arrival to the hotel.
A 100-kg stainless steel piece, “Directions 2015”, by Emirati artist Mr. Mohammed Kazem, will grace the new environs of 165 Below gallery on the ground floor. Mr. Kazem, acclaimed for his exhibits at Venice Biennale and across the United States, India, and Germany, is recognized for his unique perspective of using geographical markers as his personal expression of centering his own views within the scope of the UAE’s fast-changing landscapes.
Additional pieces have been selected from a wide range of talents, including Mohammed Ibrahim, Elseed, WissamShawkat, Cristiana de Marchi, ZainebAlhashemi, Farah Al Qasimi. These artists’ pieces will be the foundation of the hotel’s private collection, debuting to the community with a special opening ceremony during Abu Dhabi Art week in November.
“The Andaz brand provides an outstanding opportunity to leverage the iconic modern architecture of the hotel with local culture experiences and character. We are confident that this inspirational luxury lifestyle hotel experience will ignite the imagination of visitors by offering a world of unique moments, through the art collection and gallery events,” said Stuart Deeson, General Manager of the hotel and Area Vice President Abu Dhabi for Hyatt. “ADNEC’s commitment to support and showcase local and Emirati artists through this acquisition of the hotel’s own permanent art collection sets the foundation for stories to be told, shared, cherished, and created,” he continued, “It’s a wonderful way to integrate the essence of Abu Dhabi into every guest’s visit.”
Andaz Capital Gate will create a barrier-free, friendly, and accommodating environment to encourage exploration and discovery. The hotel has intertwined Emirati stories and touches throughout the hotel experience, to deliver a uniquely focused local perspective. In addition to the private art collection, visitors will actively interact with various native traditions such as Khatt and Sadu, diverse cuisine with a focus on locally grown and sourced ingredients, and Emirati designed staff fashion. The Pulse, a bespoke collection of Abu Dhabi’s hidden gems, will provide inspiration for the urban nomad.
Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi will offer 189 five-star luxury guestrooms and suites, occupying the 18th to 33rd floors of the iconic Capital Gate building, marking the world’s furthest leaning hotel at an impressive 18-degree incline. Each room will offer panoramic views from floor-to-ceiling windows, its own unique art, and locally designed comforts such as the hotel’s bespoke Andaz Loungewear. The hotel is adjacent to Abu Dhabi’s National Exhibition Centre, and home to the award-winning 18º restaurant and lounge, the 165 Below art gallery, the award-winning Rayana spa, a rooftop swimming pool and fitness center, and meeting studios.
