Badr Mohammed Al Meer assumed the role of CEO of Qatar Airways on November 5, 2023, following the resignation of long-serving CEO Akbar Al Baker. Al Meer's appointment marked a new chapter for the globally recognized airline, and he brought with him a wealth of experience and a strategic mindset shaped by years in leadership roles within the aviation and construction sectors.
Before stepping into his role as CEO of Qatar Airways, Al Meer served as the Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport. Joining in 2014, he played a pivotal role in transforming the airport into a global leader in travel innovation, integrating advanced technologies such as biometrics, robotics, and blockchain to create a "smart airport" environment. His efforts helped secure numerous awards from Skytrax, solidifying Hamad International Airport as one of the world's top travel hubs.
Prior to his aviation roles, Al Meer spent nine years at United Development Company, a leading construction company in Qatar, where he held several key positions, including a stint as Acting CEO. His engineering background and strategic management skills contributed to his success in these leadership positions, as he oversaw major infrastructure and facilities projects at both United Development and Qatar Airways.
Al Meer holds engineering degrees from prestigious institutions, including the American University of Beirut and the University of Colorado. His strong educational foundation, combined with his extensive career experience, has made him a well-rounded leader who is shaping the future of Qatar's aviation and hospitality sectors.
