A dedicated team from The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina catered to a host of officials, players and VIP guests at the stadium
Chefs from around the world have been praised for running one of the most complex catering operations in UAE history during the recent 2018 Asia Cup cricket tournament, one of cricket’s biggest matches.
Recognised as a massive success, the competition which was held at Dubai International Stadium in Sports City and Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, was won by India in a thrilling final against Bangladesh at the weekend.
During the course of the tournament, a dedicated team from The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina in Dubai catered to a host of officials, players and VIP guests at the stadium, resulting in the creation of over 30 buffets and 2,500 meals per day.
To cope with the demands of each team and country, specialty chefs were flown in for the occasion, creating special menus for the officials and factoring in strict dietary requirements for the team players on a daily basis – serving up over 20,000 meals across three weeks.
Bhavesh Rawal, Director - OFF SITE Business Development, The Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina said: “We had a large team running the Asia Cup catering and the efforts they went to were incredible as this was a huge complex and a demanding job from start to finish.
“The decision to fly in chefs from across the globe was made as we needed it to be world class to match the standard of the whole tournament.
“I think everyone recognises what a magnificent sporting event this was and it shows the UAE can really pull it off.”
Throughout the duration of the tournament, in addition to catering to the national teams of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Hong Kong, the talented team at the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi also catered to a host of VIP’s, including members of the Royal Family.
In order to please a global audience, a wide array of dishes from different continents were served, however, the most popular dish was the mutton karahi, a popular dish from the Pakistan and a crowd favourite at the 2018 Asia Cup.
