4VI Invests more than $1 Million in Local Businesses and Tourism on Vancouver Island
Some exciting news out of Vancouver Island
4VI, formerly Tourism Vancouver Island, is a tourism organization that is looking into the future with the goal of ensuring travel is a force for good-- forever.
I digress, 4VI just celebrated its first anniversary of becoming a social enterprise and completed its Impact report.
Below are some highlights based on two of 4VI’s four pillars: culture and the environment.
- In support of culture, 4VI enabled the production of Indigenous Voices of Vancouver Island, an Indigenous-written, hosted, and produced podcast celebrating the region’s diverse First Nations and some of the people leading the growth of Indigenous tourism. They also forged a collaboration with Allied Partnerships. This organization pioneered a ground-breaking initiative with the Tla-o-qui-hat First Nation that continues to foster a new relationship between tourism and Indigenous communities.
- In support of the environment, 4VI is a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration, committing to cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half over the next decade and reaching net zero emissions as soon as possible before 2050. As part of this commitment, 4VI undertook a rigorous carbon audit of tourism in the Vancouver Island region and its operations. In addition, using 2022 as a baseline year, 4VI will cut its emissions by 20 per cent by 2025 while supporting the emission reduction efforts of its tourism partners through a comprehensive carbon reduction strategy that will launch in the coming weeks. Finally, as part of its Ocean Friendly goals, 4VI partnered with Ocean Legacy and Surfrider Pacific Rim to fund the development and renovation of ocean plastic recycling depots in Ucluelet and Cumberland.
