Chef Sally Handoko to Conduct Intensive Course in Pastry and Baking with DCT
Dubai College of Tourism announces special pastry and baking course
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, 25 April 2022: The Dubai College of Tourism (DCT), a part of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), has announced a full time nine-week intensive course in pastry and baking to pave the way for talented individuals to take up careers as professional pastry chefs or bakers within Dubai’s thriving restaurant and hospitality sector. The course will be held from 9 May to 8 July 2022, at the new DCT Kitchen located in Nad Al Sheba.
Participants will begin the course by learning the fundamental skills needed by every baking and pastry chef, as well as nutritional aspects of their subjects. From thereon, the course will progress into imparting intermediate and advanced skillsets, in delicate chocolate and desert preparation.
The course will be led and taught by professional chef and Baking & Patisserie instructor, Sally Handoko who has over 15 years’ experience in working across fast pace pastry teams for five-star luxury hotels and restaurants across the Middle East. Handoko’s core skills lie in her pastry and baking knowledge, as well as mastering in sugar art, chocolate art, team management, menu developing and of course, hygiene. Handoko intends to impart these useful and specialised skills onto the keen bakers attending the College’s baking and pastry course.
This course and other such culinary courses provided by DCT, aim to keep the future industry professionals up to date to enable them to align with the ever-evolving hospitality sector in Dubai. The special course comes as Dubai’s gastronomy scene continues to grow and draw international recognition. As a testament to the gastronomic heritage, diversity of flavours and depth of the food scene in Dubai, the city was recognised as the No.4 destination internationally for ‘Food Lovers’ in the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2022.
Other exciting updates include the arrival of the Michelin Guide Dubai and Gault&Millau to the region, while Dubai’s restaurants and chefs were recognised in the inaugural edition of Middle East & North Africa’s 50 Best Restaurants, which took place in February 2022 in celebration of culinary excellence across the region.
